Effect of Environmental Temperature and Humidity on Paper

In printing production, paper is inseparable. Paper has very high requirements for ambient temperature. Many papers are porous materials. The basic structure is composed of plant fiber materials and auxiliary materials, which have strong water absorption. If the ambient temperature and humidity cannot be adjusted correctly, it will cause deformation of the paper and affect normal printing.

Therefore, maintaining an appropriate ambient temperature and humidity is the key to enhancing the quality of paper printing. In the printing industry, we need to take corresponding measures to ensure that unnecessary losses will not be caused.

Under the condition of constant ambient temperature and humidity, the fixed moisture value inside the paper is called paper moisture content. When the ambient humidity is inconsistent with the moisture content of the paper, the paper will be partially or completely deformed, or the whole paper will be bent and deformed, upturned, and the pile of paper is high at one end and low at the other. If this deformed paper In the case of printing directly on the machine without other processing, it will cause difficulties in unloading paper, inaccurate printing and other product quality problems, which will affect production efficiency and quality of printed products.

The effect of temperature changes on the moisture content of paper is also different. Normally, as the temperature rises, the moisture content of the paper decreases. As the temperature decreases, the moisture content of the paper increases.

Temperature and humidity also have a great influence on printing inks. The higher the temperature, the faster the drying; the lower the temperature, the slower the drying. Especially printing inks for lithographic printing technology. In the printing process, the presence of fountain solution will cause emulsification. The size of air humidity affects the volatilization of water in printing ink.

Temperature and humidity have a direct impact on the drying rate of printing ink. If the temperature is too low and the air humidity is too high, the drying rate of printing ink will be reduced and the printing cycle time will be increased. Paper and printing ink are interdependent, neither can get wet or too dry.

Generally speaking, changes in temperature and humidity have a relatively large impact on the normal production of offset printing workshops. Practical experience has proved that the suitable ambient temperature of the printing production workshop is 18°C-23°C, and the air humidity is 55%-65%. Considering the sensitivity of paper to temperature and humidity, in order to better ensure normal production, printing companies need to ensure a suitable paper storage and production environment.
